One side of the house collects a loose grey film off the road, the other a bonded scale off the irrigation, and they need different treatment - a rinse for the grit, a dedicated scale step for the deposit.
Sealed-unit homes collect a film the window itself keeps in place
The newer argon-filled double panes are the best-insulated windows in the area, but they are also the ones that show every imperfection because the interior surface is smooth and the coating is uniform. And because a sealed unit is meant to be permanent, buildup on the outside cannot be cleaned from between the panes - it has to come off the exposed face, and it only ever sees a ladder or a pole, never the inside of the glass. The two-story elevations common in the newer subdivisions shift the whole job to reach. A ladder against the wall risks the frame and the landscaping and wastes time on every pane; a water-fed pole reaches the full height from the ground using the same purified-water rig, which is why it does most of the upper work here. The ground floor and any detail trim are still hand work. And if your neighborhood runs to HOA standards, the front-facing windows are the ones that get looked at - so the elevation by the street is usually the one worth keeping on a schedule, whether or not the rest of the house is due.
